Long before his appointment as McMaster's sixth President and Vice-Chancelloe, Dr. Peter George was a fervent supporter of McMaster Athletics, and often attended Marauder sports events. Throughout his tenure as University President (1995-2010), Dr. George remained a very passionate supporter of Athletics, demonstrating his Marauder pride as a regular attendee at events at the stadium, in the gymnasium, in the pool and at competitions across Canada, and setting a personal goal of attending each women's and men's sport at least once a year. Unider his leadership, McMaster undertook many significant expansion and development projects, including the construction of Ron Joyce Stadium and the David Braley Athletic Centre, providing the University and the Hamilton community with two, much-needed world-class facilities which inspired intercollegiate athletes and sparked student and community participation in fitness/sport. It is often said that Dr. Peter George bleeds maroon and grey.
