In four years of competition at McMaster, George made his mark as an outstanding multi-sport athlete. In track and field, he set Canadian records as a discus and javelin thrower. Laughren was a member of McMaster's 1934 basketball team that won the Senior A title and was also a key player o the 1935 Intermediate championship football team.
