U SPORTS ELIGIBILITY

Definition of U SPORTS Sports and Student-Athletes:
U SPORTS sports are those that are offered by both the OUA and the U SPORTS and lead both to an OUA and U SPORTS championship. U SPORTS athletes are those who compete in U SPORTS sports.

THE BASICS

Academic Requirements
- Student-athletes must be enrolled in a minimum of 18 units within the academic year (September - August) OR a minimum of 9 units in the term in which they are competing OR registered as "full-time" by their faculty (graduate students)
- To continue participation in the following year, a student-athlete must have successfully completed a minimum of 18 units during the previous academic year (September - August).
- If you are no longer a student in good standing, you must first successfully complete 18 units within an academic year before becoming eligible to compete again.

Athletic Requirements
- U SPORTS student-athletes have a maximum of five (5) years of eligibility.
- Name on score sheet = participation.
- A year of eligibility will be charged where the athlete has participated in any one of the following:
- Participation in three or more non-conference competitions or tournaments.
        In the sports of basketball, soccer, and volleyball, participation in any conference competition if there is a non-conference schedule.
        In the sports of football and rugby, and where a team has a one-game exhibition schedule, a student-athlete may participate in one regular season game without consuming a year of eligibility.
        In the sports of basketball, football, rugby, soccer, and volleyball, participation in two or more conference competitions if there is no non-conference schedule.
- Any participation in a conference playoff or qualifier (i.e. OUA playoffs & championship).
- Any participation in a U SPORTS Championship.


OUA ELIGIBILITY

Definition of OUA Sports and Student-Athletes:
OUA sports are those that are only offered by the OUA, lead to OUA championships, and are not offered by the U SPORTS. OUA student-athletes are those who compete in OUA sports.

THE BASICS

Academic Requirements

Student-athletes can compete in an OUA sport in as many years as they want, provided they meet all other eligibility requirements.
- Student-athletes may transfer from one institution to another without penalty, provided all other eligibility requirements are met.
- Student-athletes must be enrolled in a minimum of 9 units in the term in which they are competing OR registered as "full-time" by their faculty (graduate students).
        In the sports of rowing and men's rugby, to continue participation in the following year, a student-athlete must have successfully completed a minimum of 18 units during the previous year (September - August) or deemed "in good standing' by their         faculty.
