Bernie was a Marauder football coach from 1981-88, and coached his way to a 31-23-1 record over 8 seasons. In one season he brought the Marauders from a seventh place to a first place finish. He was twice named as the OUAA Coach of the Year (1982 & 1984) and once as the CIAU Coach of the Year (1982). Bernie is a former professional football player having spent time as a Hamilton Tiger-Cat and an Ottawa Rough Rider, and was the first black professional starting quarterback. Bernie was inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame as a Builder in 1998. He is a retired principal who currently acts as a scout and oversees player personnel for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. Bernie and his wife, Lorraine, reside in Burlington.
