One of Canada’s top medley swimmers, Hamilton native Joanne Malar, spent three record-setting seasons at McMaster.  As of 2012, she still holds OUA records in the 200M and 400M individual medley events.  McMaster captured the OUA Championship in all three years she competed as a varsity swimmer.  Her varsity career was highlighted by eight gold medals won at the OUA finals, and seven gold medals at the CIS championships. In both 1995 and 1996, Malar was recognized as the CIS Swimmer of the Year and she was also named McMaster’s Female Athlete of the Year.

She was a three-time Canadian Olympian, competing at the Summer Games in 1992, 1996, and 2000.
