In four years of varsity competition, Don McFarlane never lost a sprint race. He was recipient of the Chancellor's Gold Medal. In 1953, he set the university record of 9.9 seconds for the 100 yard dash. Don also competed for Canada at the 1952 Helsink i Olympics and at the 1954 British Empire Games in Vancouver, where he won gold and silver medals.
