McMaster Cross Country sweeps OUA Championships with double gold performance

The Marauders captured both the men's and women's team titles, combining outstanding individual performances with exceptional depth across both 8km races.

HAMILTON, Ont. — The McMaster Marauders cross country program delivered a championship performance on Saturday, October 31, capturing both the men's and women's team titles at the 2026 OUA Cross Country Championships.

McMaster dominated the team standings, with the men's squad finishing first with just 30 points, while the women's team secured gold with 40 points. The Marauders placed a combined nine runners inside the top 12 across both races, demonstrating the depth and consistency that have defined their 2026 campaign.

Men's Cross Country

The nationally No. 1-ranked McMaster men's cross country team delivered an impressive performance, capturing the OUA championship with 30 points and placing all five scoring runners inside the top 10.

The Marauders finished comfortably ahead of the Guelph Gryphons, who claimed silver with 68 points, while the Western Mustangs rounded out the podium with 81 points.

Leading the charge was Samuel Patrick, who earned an individual silver medal after completing the 8km course in 24:22.3. Patrick finished behind Guelph's Jack Lehto, who captured individual gold with a time of 23:56.2.

McMaster's strength was evident throughout the front of the field, with William Weist finishing fifth overall in 24:29.5, followed closely by rookie Jack Gregory in sixth with a time of 24:30.3.

Iain Thomson added another outstanding result for the Marauders, crossing the finish line in seventh place at 24:34.0. With four McMaster runners finishing among the top seven, the Marauders established a commanding advantage in the team standings.

Austin McGoey completed McMaster's five scoring positions, placing 10th overall with a time of 24:43.0 to secure the championship-winning total of 30 points.

The Marauders also received strong contributions from Tristan Bouius, who finished 12th in 24:46.5, and rookie Eli Bouius, who placed 23rd in 25:01.3.

Just 20.7 seconds separated McMaster's first and fifth finishers, highlighting the remarkable consistency of the team's scoring group.

The championship performance continued an exceptional season for the Marauders, who entered the event ranked first nationally following strong showings throughout the fall, including a team victory at the McMaster Open.

With five runners inside the top 10 and seven among the top 23, McMaster reinforced its position as one of the country's leading cross country programs heading into the national championship.

Women's Cross Country

The McMaster women's cross country team completed the Marauders' championship sweep, capturing the OUA team title with 40 points in an impressive display of depth and consistency.

Entering the championships ranked No. 6 nationally, McMaster placed five runners inside the top 12 to finish ahead of the Windsor Lancers, who claimed silver with 54 points, and the Guelph Gryphons, who earned bronze with 61 points.

Ana Morariu led the Marauders with an individual bronze medal, finishing third overall in 28:18.1. Morariu was the highest-placing McMaster runner and finished behind Windsor's Samara Quanz and Alyshia Alkerton, who took gold and silver, respectively.

Rookie Ruby File followed with an outstanding fifth-place finish, completing the 8km course in 28:34.7 to give McMaster two runners inside the top five.

Sophie Trott continued the Marauders' strong showing, crossing the line in ninth place with a time of 28:59.2.

McMaster's scoring group was completed by Emma Elliott and Kara Tichbourne, who finished 11th and 12th overall with times of 29:05.5 and 29:08.9, respectively.

The five scoring performances combined for 40 points, giving the Marauders a 14-point advantage over Windsor despite the Lancers claiming the top two individual positions.

McMaster's depth extended beyond its scoring five, with rookie Alexandra Mills placing 21st in 29:58.1 and Dayna Thompson finishing 37th with a time of 31:08.0.

The Marauders' ability to place five athletes within the first 12 finishers proved decisive, as the team secured the championship through a balanced collective effort.

The victory marked another significant achievement in a strong 2026 season for the women's program, which had previously earned a second-place team finish at the McMaster Open.

With both squads crowned OUA champions, McMaster now turns its attention toward the U SPORTS Cross Country Championships, carrying momentum from a remarkable double-gold performance on the provincial stage.
