McMaster comes back from Boston with multiple PBs and school records

BOSTON, MA. — The Marauders headed back to Boston again during a snowy weekend to compete at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational. Despite the snow outside, the Marauders were able to come away with some fast times on the indoor track. In the men's 1km, Samuel Patrick (Guelph, Ont.) finished 10th overall with a personal best time of 2:25.87. Close behind him was Tristan Bouius (Hanover, Ont.) in 12th with also a personal best time of 2:26.30.

After having a successful trip to Boston a few weeks back, veteran Alexander Purnell (Dundas, Ont.) tested his legs in the mile again and crossed the line just over the four minute mark in 4:00.86. 

In the 3000m, the Marauder men had a trio of personal bests with Iain Thomson (Dundas, Ont.) finishing in 8:17.47, Giancarlo Farruggia (Hamilton, Ont.) crossing in 8:19.17, and Austin McGoey (Whitby, Ont.) in 8:25.23.

On day two, McMaster had two women break the previously held school record in the 3000m. Ana Morariu (Kincardine, Ont.) finished with a time of 9:27.75, which landed her in the fourth ranked spot nationally in the 3000m and is an auto qualifying time for U SPORTS. Kaitlyn Treleaven (Hamilton, Ont.) finished with a time of 9:31.24, also breaking the previously held record of 9:33.36. Victoria Lamb (London, Ont.) ran the mile in 4:48.43.

TORONTO, Ont. —The other half of the Marauder track squad stayed closer to home, running the Hal Brown Last Chance meet at the University of Toronto. McMaster came away with more fast times and had many Marauders make the podium.

In the mile, the Marauders had Ben Keller (Hamilton, Ont.) finish third overall with a time of 4:22.66, and Kara Tichbourne (Meaford, Ont.) finish second in the women's race with a time of 5:04.31

Then in the 1km race, the top Marauder finishers were Porter Lakhanpal (Dundas, Ont.) in second, crossing the line in 2:31.45 and on the women's side it was Emma Elliott (Guelph, Ont.) finishing first for the Marauders in second as well with a time of 2:59.10. Lastly, the top 3000m finisher for the Marauders in Toronto was Jack Ormsby (Brechin, Ont.) who finished fourth overall with a time of 8:57.43.

Next Up: The Marauders will prepare for the OUA Championship in Windsor from Feb 21st-22nd.
