WINDSOR, Ont. - The Marauders made their mark at the Can-Am Track Classic in Windsor, Ont., over the weekend. In the 3000-metre open event, the women captured gold and bronze, while the men followed with a podium sweep. The men also secured a silver medal in the 4x800-metre relay.
On Friday evening, out of 27 competitors,
Victoria Lamb (London, Ont.) claimed the top spot in the women's 3000m open with an outstanding time of 9:43.81. The fourth-year student controlled the pace and made her decisive move in the final 400 metres, passing the competition to leap from fourth to first place. Lamb recorded the fastest final 1000-metre split of the evening with a time of 3:11.79.

Ana Morariu (Kincardine, Ont.) also earned a spot on the podium, finishing third. Morariu crossed the line in 9:47.11, showcasing her consistency. Her 1000-metre splits were 3:15.31, 3:16.12, and 3:15.69.
In the men's 3000m open, McMaster swept the podium. William Weist took gold with a time of 8:29.19. Weist ran much of the race in third but made a strong late move to secure the win. Teammates
Iain Thomson (Dundas, Ont.) and
Austin McGoey (Whitby, Ont.) finished second and third, with respective times of 8:33.88 and 8:34.23.
The McMaster men's 4x800-metre relay team—comprising
Noah Mulkewich (Hamilton, Ont.),
Matthew Markson (Toronto, Ont.),
Tristan Bouius (Hanover, Ont.), and Alec Purnell (Dundas, Ont.)—delivered a valiant effort to capture silver. The team finished just three seconds behind the top contenders with a time of 7:42.29.
The Marauders will travel to London, Ont., aiming to continue their success at the Don Wright Team Challenge on Saturday, Jan. 18, hosted by Western University.
