WATERLOO, Ont. — After a fourth place team finish at their season opener last weekend, the Marauder men's cross country team aimed for a podium finish this Saturday at the Don Mills Open in Waterloo.
Even with the wet and rainy conditions, the Marauders were able to put together a strong team performance. The first Marauder to finish the 6km race was rookie Noah Nagy (Newmarket, Ont.) in 14th, with a time of 19:03. Close behind him was Matthew Markson (Toronto, Ont.) in 17th, crossing the line at 19:09. Crossing the line simultaneously was Jason Lowrie (Kitchener, Ont.) and Ben Keller (Hamilton, Ont.) in 19th and 20th at 19:15, and Lukas Vadeika (Mount Albert, Ont.) rounded out the team score finishing in 21st with a time of 19:18.
Together the Marauder men finished with a team score of 67 points and clinched a second place finish as a team.
The Marauder women took the course next. Coming off a third place finish at the Vigar & Salter Invitational last weekend, the Marauder women had a hunger for the podium again this weekend.
Leading the Marauders team was Kayla Overholt (Burlington, Ont.) crossing in 8th place with a time of 22:20. Kaylee White (Bright's Grove, Ont.) was next across the line for the Marauders, finishing in 25th with a time of 23:09. Following closely behind was Mikayla Battams (Tottenham, Ont.) in 28th with a time of 23:11. Then closing out the team scores was Joselyn Rivera Marcotte (Wasaga Beach, Ont.) in 32nd with a time of 23:14, and Kaitlin Campagna (Waterloo, Ont.) in 33rd at 23:19.
The women finished just off the podium in fourth place and will look to defend the nest on their home course on October 11th.
