McMaster cross country team’s both earn bronze finishes at OUA Championships

NORTH BAY, Ont. — The McMaster Marauders cross country teams had a strong showing at the OUA Championships in North Bay, Ont.

The men's team had four of their athletes finish in the top 20 as well as three of the women's team finished in the top 20. This very strong showing earned both teams the bronze medal.

Fifth-year athlete, Alexander Purnell (Dundas, Ont.) finished in sixth place with an overall time of 24:53.8, which was the highest overall Marauder seeding. Samuel Patrick (Guelph, Ont.) and Wil Weist (Toronto, Ont.) finished 12th and 13th respectively, finishing three seconds apart from each other. Giancarlo Farruggia (Hamilton, Ont.) averaged 3:11.1 per kilometer and finished 18th overall.

Fourth-year Marauder, Ana Morariu (Kincardine, Ont.), had a very strong performance finishing in ninth place with an overall time of 29:15.2, leading the Marauders women. Victoria Lamb (London, Ont.) averaged 3:42.2 per kilometer, bringing home 14th place. Emma Elliott (Guelph, Ont.) finished in 16th with the time of 29:48.9.

Next up, the Marauders are heading to Kelowna, B.C for the U SPORTS Championships. The Marauders will hope for a repeat performance as they look to earn another medal.
