LONDON, Ont. – The McMaster Marauders cross country teams opened the season with strong performances at the Vigars & Salter Western Invitational in London, Ont. on Saturday, with the women's team finishing just off the podium in fourth while the men finished in eighth overall.

Hannah Goodjohn had the best performance of the day for the Marauders, finishing in seventh spot. The Mount Albert, Ont. local's time of 30:14 was the second fastest by an OUA student-athlete. The fourth-year runner averaged six minutes and five seconds per mile. Not far behind was teammate
Rosalyn Barrett of Ottawa, finishing eleven seconds back of Goodjohn, good for tenth overall.
Victoria Lamb and
Kayla Overholt completed the course in 23
rd and 34
th, respectively, with times of 31:21 and 31:47. A rookie from Port Coquitlam, B.C.,
Ella Madsen, completed the 8 kilometre course in 32:05 to round out McMaster's top five finishers.
The UBC Thunderbirds took top spot in the women's race after a 1-2-3-5-6 finish, the Western Mustangs finished second and the StFX X-Women narrowly edged the Marauders by a single point to claim bronze.
The men's race saw two Marauders in the top 40, led by rookie
Kamran Brar's time of 36:28. The first-year from Oshawa, Ont. averaged 5:21 per mile. Four spots back
Connor Lashley of Mississauga, Ont. who was just 15 seconds behind his teammate.
Lukas Vadeika put in a time of 27:03 while Noaj Mulkewich and
Will Weist were the final two scorers for the Marauders. Collectively, the maroon and grey finished eighth overall. The Queen's Gaels, UBC Thunderbirds and Guelph Gryphons earned the three podium spots in the men's race.
