WATERLOO, Ont. - The McMaster Marauders cross country teams topped the podium in both the women's and men's team competitions at the 2023 Don Mills Open on Saturday.

After opening the OUA cross country season in fourth place in London last weekend, the McMaster women's cross country team built on its success, this time earning gold in Waterloo. The Marauders had a strong race, with three finishers in the top seven.
Third-year Kaitlyn Treleaven crossed the finish line as the third fastest varsity runner, completing the 6 kilometre course in just 22:12.9. The health sciences student averaged 3:42 per kilometre, seven seconds off the pace set by the race winner. Treleaven ended the race 20 seconds ahead of the next closest competitor and teammate, Emma Elliott. Elliott finished fourth in the field of 51 racers with a time of 22:33.7.
Rookie Ella Madsen was the third Marauder to cross the finish line with a time of 22:38.5, good for sixth in the university competition. Ana Morariu and Mikayla Battams completed the course in 22:58.8 (11th) and 23:20.8 (19th) respectively, to round out the top five finishers for the Marauders.
The McMaster men's team also led the way in Waterloo, with a 3-4-5 finish in the individual competition of 61 runners on the six kilometre men's circuit.
Connor Lashley was the first Marauder to complete the course in 18:56.8, followed closely by his first-year teammate,
Ryan Davies (18:58.9).
Giancarlo Farruggia rounded out the top three finishes by the Marauders with a fifth place time of 19:04.5.
Tristan Bouius, a rookie from Hanover, Ont., had an 8
th overall time of 19:08.5.
Jason Lowrie was the final scorer for McMaster with a 10
th overall time of 19:14.2.

The Marauders will host their annual Marauder Bayfront Open on Friday October 13 with runners from the top Ontario university programs in attendance.
