Top 10 Tuesday: Marauders Men Debut in Tie for Second in Opening Cross Country Rankings

McMaster's women's rugby team dropped to 10 after a loss to Queen's

Returning the bulk of the team that finished fourth in Canada a year ago and won OUA silver, the Marauders were given a vote of confidence by the U SPORTS national rankings Tuesday.

McMaster found itself in a three-way tie for second, alongside Laval and Calgary, as cross country released its first lists of the season.

The other ranked Marauders program, McMaster's women's rugby team, dropped five places to 10th in Tuesday's new rankings after suffering a 34-14 loss to the Queen's Gaels Sunday.

Scheduled to take on their first OUA competition on Saturday, when they venture to London for the Bill Slater Western International, McMaster's young runners opened the season south of the border on September 14.

The Marauders brought a group made up largely of rookies to the University of Buffalo Stampede, where first-year runner Andrew Davies finished ninth overall in a field of NCAA Division I competitors to lead Mac's men to fourth as a team.

For their part, the McMaster women's rugby team saw their ranking tumble after coming out on the losing end of a pivotal divisional matchup of the then-fifth-ranked Marauders and seventh-ranked Queen's Gaels.

Tries from Tia and Katie Svoboda did little to stem the tide at Ron Joyce Stadium Sunday, as Queen's rumbled to a 34-14 win, and jumped into the spot vacated by McMaster in the top 10.

The Marauders will look to bounce back with a second consecutive home date Saturday, as they welcome the Western Mustangs to Back 10 Field for a rare morning kickoff at 11:00 a.m.
