ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The figure skating team left it all on the ice this week at the OUA Championships. Over two days of competition, the Marauders finished in fifth place overall against the top skaters in the province. It wasn't the final result they had wished for, but they still collected some impressive hardware, including two gold medals and one bronze.
In the Gold Women Free event, rookie
Amanda Tobin showed everyone what she was made of as she topped the podium in her first ever OUA Championships. Although this was her first medal with the Marauders, Amanda is no stranger to success. She previously won a gold medal in the 2023 Skate Ontario Sectional Championship and a silver medal in the Skate Canada Challenge.Â
Alistair Lam also finished first in the Gold Men Free event. With this win, he continues his undefeated streak in the event, having won it 3 years in a row now. The third year kinesiology student scored a whopping 74.97 points in the performance, which was over 14 points higher than the second place finisher.Â
Alistair picked up another medal alongside fellow third-year teammate
Catalina Costiuc. The pair won bronze in the Senior Couples Pairs event, finishing just 0.6 points short of the silver medalists. The two were destined for success, having won the gold medal for this event in the Brock Invitational tournament held in December. Catalina won a bronze medal at last year's OUA Championships, as well, in the Pairs Fours event.Â
The figure skating season now comes to a close for the Marauders. They gave an impressive performance and seem to be heading for an even better season next year.
