Marauders water polo teams head to Kingston, Ont. for NCWP Championships

Hamilton, Ont. — The McMaster Marauders' water polo teams are participating in the 2024 National Collegiate Water Polo Championships (NCWP), which runs from November 29^th to December 1^st at Queen's University. The men's team is looking to take a step forward as they finished in fourth place last year while the women are looking to return to the podium just as they did in 2022.

The men's team earned a 4-6 record over the season and will enter competition as the fifth-place seed. Assistant captain, Kane Law (Singapore), says that the Marauders are energized to perform for their captain, Colin Colterjohn. Colterjohn (Hamilton, Ont.), a PhD student, who is in his tenth and final season with the Marauders and the team plans on helping him close his career with a "memorable send-off".

The women's team went 3-7 in their season and enter the Championship as the fourth seed. Co-Head Coach, Jordan Colterjohn, expects the Marauder women to have success over the weekend, saying "Our last major tournament at the beginning of November we went 3-0, so we know we are capable of beating these teams in our quest for a medal."

Men's Team

Ardalan Ghodrati (Toronto, Ont.): Ghodrati is playing in his first season as a Marauder. The rookie goaltender was a solid addition to the team during the season and will look to be a force for the Marauders championship run.

Kane Law (Singapore): The men's assistant captain is in his second season with the Marauders. The talented right winger is coming off a fantastic season and will be participating in his second NCWP Championship.

Ryder McCann (Hamilton, Ont.): The 6'1 hole check has been a huge piece for the Marauders. McCann will be competing in his second collegiate championship with McMaster.

Jack Sardo (Hamilton, Ont.): The 6'1 left driver had an impressive season as he finished in the top 10 for goal-scoring. He will be playing in his second collegiate championship as the Marauders will look for him to continue his production.

Women's Team

Karima Al-Aoussi (Kitchener, Ont.): The women's leading scorer during the season. The hole set will be an important player for the Marauders in the Championship.

Sydney Bowers (Toronto, Ont.): An impressive season for Bowers helped the rookie Marauder crack the starting line-up.

Kinsley Bozzo (Hamilton, Ont.): The centre defender played strong defensively while also providing high offensive production. The fourth year Marauder will bring key experience for McMaster's medal hopes.

Stella Ceccato (Whitby, Ont.): The 6'1" goaltender is in her second year as a Marauder. Ceccato will be participating in her second NCWP Championship.

The tournament will include seven teams in the men's division and six teams in the women's division. The Marauder men open the championship on November 29^th with a quarterfinal matchup against Queen's at 6p.m, while the women take on McGill in their quarterfinal at 1:30p.m.
