Pair of McMaster Swimmers Named Marauder Athletes of the Week

HAMILTON, Ont. — McMaster swimmers Ashley Ko and Hayden Yeung made waves at the 2024 Merrily Stratten Divisional Championships, hosted by the University of Toronto last weekend.

Women's Swimming – Ashley Ko (Burnaby, B.C.)
Rookie phenom, Ashley Ko has made an impressive start to her Marauders career. The Burnaby, B.C., native has secured nine individual top-three finishes across just four meets this season. Over the weekend, Ko placed second out of 18 competitors in the Women's 400 SC Meter Individual Medley (IM). She also delivered a strong performance in the Women's 200 SC Meter IM, finishing just 0.46 seconds shy of the U SPORTS qualifying time of 2:20.42. In addition, Ko ranked third in the Women's 400 SC Meter Freestyle and led the Marauders to a third-place finish in the Women's 200 SC Meter Freestyle Relay.

Men's Swimming – Hayden Yeung (Hong Kong, China)
Second-year kinesiology student, Hayden Yeung led the Marauders men's team to a second-place finish overall. Yeung topped the podium in the Men's 100 SC Meter Breaststroke with an outstanding time of 1:01.77, surpassing the U SPORTS qualifying standard of 1:02.43. He also claimed victory in the Men's 50 SC Meter Breaststroke, finishing six-hundredths of a second under the qualifying time, and placed first out of 22 competitors. Capping off a stellar weekend, Yeung qualified for the U SPORTS Men's 200 SC Meter Breaststroke event, finishing fourth with a time of 2:17.10.
