CHAMPIONSHIP PREVIEW: McMaster golf gears up for OUA Championships

HAMILTON, Ont. — The McMaster Marauders' golf teams are off to Windsor, Ont. on Friday to participate in the OUA Championships.

The Marauders men's and women's teams will look to improve on last year's performance that saw them finish ninth and eighth respectively at the Grey Silo Golf Course in Waterloo, Ont. McMaster golf last found success at the OUA Championships in 2022 when the men took home the gold.

Marauders Head Coach, Ben McFaul, has high expectations for his groups, saying, "We are very excited about the upcoming OUA Championships. Ambassador Golf Club sets up great for our team composition and we like our chances going in…"

Key McMaster Men's Golfers:
  • Nicolas Dessureault (Oakville, Ont.): The fifth-year golfer is coming off an impressive win at the Guelph Invitational where he shot a 72. Dessureault was a key contributor to McMaster's team last year, earning a sixth-place finish in the OUA Championship.
  • Kavith Ranchagoda (Richmond Hill, Ont.): Ranchagoda got off to a hot start to his season, shooting a 70 at the Guelph Kickoff Tournament, which placed him tied for third. He also recorded another top-10 finish at the Brock Invitational.
Key McMaster Women's Golfers:
  • Jimin Kim (Thornhill, Ont.): The second-year golfer, added to her strong rookie season with another consistent season. Kim who was a major bright spot for the Marauders last year, will look to continue her success at the OUA Championship.
  • Kaylee Jeon (Mississauga, Ont.): Jeon put together a strong season that saw her lead the team in each tournament she participated in this year, including putting up back-to-back 81's at the Waterloo Women's Invitational that placed her in a tie for eighth place.
With the experience that McMaster is bringing to the tournament, McFaul believes they have the right formula to succeed, "…Both the Men's and Women's teams have been trending in recent tournaments and our athletes are ready to compete."

The Marauders begin tournament play on October 5th at 10am.
