Marauders compete at 2023 OUA Golf Championship

This past weekend, the McMaster Marauders competed at the OUA  Championship. The tournament took place at Grey Silo Golf Club in Waterloo, with 15 universities competing in the men's division and a respective 11 on the women's side.
 
The Marauders teed off on Saturday morning, getting started with the two round championship.
 
Round 1 -  
 
The McMaster men's opened the day with a score of 302. The 2022 first place men's golfer, Nicolas Dessureault led the Marauders holding T4, at one below par. First Year, Ryan Chen, shot five over with, second year, Matthew Martel hitting six over to hold the middle of the pack. The tournament saw close competition, as it was one stroke that separated McMaster from the Laurentian Voyageurs in 8th place.
 
The Marauders women made their strides, ending the day in a three-way tie for eighth place, alongside The Brock Badgers and the Ottawa Gee Gees. First Year, and McMaster Athlete of The Week, Jimin Kim was tied for 6th, hitting two birdies and an overall +10.
 
Round 2 -
 
Dessureault continued to lead the Marauder Men, ending the tournament and his very successful career, tied in 6th with one above par. Fifth year, Michael Guyatt saw two birdies and a comeback, making up 17 positions to land in an eight way tie for 44th, with fellow Marauder Ryan Chen. The McMaster Marauders men's golf team ended the day in 9th place, with a one stroke difference to 8th, held by the Queens Gaels.
 
On day two, the McMaster Women came out and made up ground. Alejandra Elliott-Cordoba, shot nine under her Round 1 score, and moved up six rankings, coming in 35th individually. Second year, Kaylee Jeon, also climbed the ladder on day two, also rising six rankings to end the day tied for 23rd with a +23. Kim continued many great drives and saw a T5th finish. The McMaster Women ended their season 8th overall.
 
With a young group, we look forward to the future successes. We would like to thank the graduating athletes for their contributions to the success and growth of the program.
