LÉVIS, Que. – The McMaster Marauders men's golf team is set to take its place among the country's top postsecondary programs this week at the 2026 Canadian University/College Championship, presented by BDO.
Miles Chute,
Liam Ferney,
Tyler Hunt,
Matthew Martel and
Kavith Ranchagoda will represent the Maroon and Grey through four rounds of competition at Golf La Tempête's South Course in Lévis, Que.
The national championship, hosted by Golf Canada and Université Laval, features 20 men's teams and 12 women's teams from across Canada, with team and individual titles on the line. The UBC Thunderbirds enter the week as defending champions in both divisions after sweeping the team titles in 2025.
McMaster earned its place in the field with a fifth-place finish at the OUA Championship last October. The Marauders entered the final round in seventh before moving up two positions to secure the conference's final automatic qualifying berth.
Martel led McMaster at the conference championship with rounds of 75 and 72, while Chute posted scores of 73 and 76. Ranchagoda, Hunt and Ferney completed the Marauders' five-player lineup as McMaster finished one stroke clear of Windsor for fifth place and earning a trip to the national championship.
The Hunt for a National Title
The Canadian University/College Championship brings together leading golfers from universities and colleges across the OUA, RSEQ, Canada West and CCAA. Each men's team is represented by five golfers, with its four lowest scores counting toward the team total each day. All five players also compete individually over the course of the championship.
The winning men's team will earn a place in the 2026 Canadian Collegiate Invitational, while the individual men's champion will receive an exemption into the 2026 Canadian Men's Amateur Championship.
The Marauders will first aim to advance through Thursday's championship cut. Following the third round, the field will be reduced to the top nine men's teams, along with any additional team within 15 strokes of the lead. Individual golfers ranked inside the top 10, or within five strokes of third place, will also move on to Friday's final round.
Inside the Ropes at La Tempête
The tournament is being played on the brand new South Course at Golf La Tempête, located in Lévis across the St. Lawrence River from Québec City.
The par-72 championship layout is expected to measure approximately 7,100 yards. The Marauders had the opportunity to study the course during Monday's official practice round before competitive play begins Tuesday morning.
McMaster will play alongside golfers from the Fraser Valley Cascades and Carleton Ravens during each of the opening two rounds.
