PREVIEW: Marauders women's lacrosse heads to Kingston for OUA Championship

The McMaster Marauders women's lacrosse team is making its way to Kingston, Ontario to make their run at the 2023 OUA Championship!

The tournament will begin on Friday, October 27th, with matches until the finals on Sunday, October 29th. The Marauders will open their run at the championship on Saturday at 11:45 a.m. against the Guelph Gryphons.

The McMaster squad is relatively young within the lacrosse world. Despite having 11 returners from last season, fourteen student-athletes are in either their first or second years. Half of the team has two or fewer years of total lacrosse experience, however, the team makes up for this with grit, heart and overall athleticism! Five Marauders also have current or previous experience playing on other teams at McMaster (2 hockey, 2 field hockey, 1 cross country).

With such a new team, to the sport and each other, leadership and cohesion are the heartbeat. Captaining the squad is fourth-year Cassidy Anyon. Anyon is the Marauders' leading goal scorer of the year, and holds previous OUA Championship experience, going into her third competition.

"This season, we've been able to make tremendous strides as a team," said head coach, Mike Bottosso. "We haven't always been the most consistent, but at times when we played well like we're capable of playing, we've been very, very good, and we're just trying to get that on a little more consistent basis. We're really looking forward to going to OUAs this weekend and giving it our all."

The Marauders will be looking to come on top of their result from a year ago when they finished 0-2 at the OUA Championship.
