Men's Volleyball: Mac Notches Third Straight Sweep, Moves to 11-0 in Toronto

Blues become the latest victim in streak dating back to Jan. 21.

Box Score The Marauders continue to clean things up in the OUA, as they picked up their third straight sweep at the expense of the Toronto Varsity Blues. McMaster has now gone undefeated in 12 straight sets, their last set loss coming to the hands of Western back on January 21.

Despite being the last remaining undefeated team in U Sports men's volleyball, the Marauders dropped to third place in the Top 10 ranking last week.

That may not have sat well with the squad as they capped the Varsity Blues at no more than 17 points per set, coming out of Toronto with yet another dominating victory. The loss wouldn't make things any easier for Toronto, as they struggle to bridge the eight-point gap between them and their city rival York Lions in the OUA's East Division.

Danny Demyanenko (13.5 points) and Brandon Koppers (13 points) continue to be a dominating duo for Mac, as their offensive attack has been a key reason for the squad's success so far this season.

That power was put on display throughout the match against Toronto, but perhaps no more apparent than in the second set on a particular play. Following a well-executed dig by Jayson McCarthy, Demyanenko took full advantage of a well-placed pass, smashing down the ball with authority for the kill. McCarthy would finish the game with a team-leading five digs. The play amped up the squad and made any hope for the Blues to gain any momentum a long shot.

McMaster had all phases of their game rolling, finishing the match hitting a season's best .534, while limiting the Varsity Blues to .281. Alex Barnes would lead Toronto with six points.

Toronto will look to turn things around tomorrow against another struggling team in the Brock Badgers. Brock has lost their last five matches.

The Marauders will get the rest of the weekend off but will be back in action for a unique Wednesday night matchup. Mac will be in Toronto against the East Division-leading Ryerson Rams (9-4). The match is set to start at 8 p.m. at Ryerson's Mattamy Athletic Centre.
