McMaster men's volleyball welcomes incoming 2025–26 recruit class

Hamilton, Ont. McMaster men's volleyball is proud to introduce a standout group of four recruits set to join the program for the 2025–26 season. Representing some of the top club and provincial talent in Ontario, this year's class features a blend of championship pedigree, strong academics, and a deep connection to the program's tradition and legacy.

Brad Douwes, Head Coach of the Men's Volleyball program states, "I am thrilled to welcome Brendan, Josiah, Matthias, and Mekhi to the Marauders Men's Volleyball program! These four outstanding athletes possess the skill, drive, and competitive ability to compete at the highest level. Just as importantly, they are men of strong character who embody the values of our program and will be welcome additions to our team room. I am confident that these four individuals will play key roles in helping us achieve our ultimate goal of bringing a U SPORTS National Championship to McMaster."

Meet the newest Marauders:

Matthias Cooper

Position: Outside Hitter | Height: 6'4
Hometown: Hamilton, Ont. | Program: Business
Previous Team: MAC 18U
Accolades: Team Ontario 2025
A hometown talent and lifelong Marauder fan, Cooper brings energy and offensive firepower to the outside.
Quote: "I chose McMaster because it's my hometown school and it's always been a dream of mine to play for the team that first sparked my love for the game."

Brendan Lyons

Position: Setter | Height: 6'5
Hometown: Oakville, Ont. | Program: Business
Previous Team: Pakmen 18U
Accolades: 18U National Champion, 18U National Championship MVP, Team Ontario 2025
A decorated setter with elite vision and leadership, Lyons joins the Marauders after earning MVP honours at the national level.
Quote: "I've been watching McMaster play ever since I started volleyball, and absolutely loved every game I watched. The atmosphere and fan base really stood out to me… After a few chats with the coaches, I realized they wanted to push me to succeed both academically and in the sport. That made a top program my obvious first choice."

Mekhi Fitzgerald

Position: Outside Hitter | Height: 6'6
Hometown: Milton, Ont. | Program: Computer Science
Previous Team: Pakmen 18U
Accolades: 18U National Champion, 18U National Championship All-Star
A dominant attacker with size and presence, Fitzgerald joins McMaster with both championship experience and a family legacy at the school.
Quote: "I chose McMaster because being part of a school with such history and tradition is important to me. My mom went to McMaster and always spoke highly of it, which motivated me even more. I want to help continue the legacy of McMaster being a dominant force in men's volleyball."

Josiah Heidbuurt

Position: Outside Hitter | Height: 6'4
Hometown: Ancaster, Ont. | Program: Business
Previous Team: MAC 18U
Accolades: AIRTIME Gratton Scholarship Recipient
A smart and powerful outside hitter, Heidbuurt brings both academic ambition and volleyball excellence to McMaster.
Quote: "I chose McMaster because of the men's volleyball team as well as the high-level academic programs. It's also close to home, which I prefer."
