Box Score The Marauders made a dangerous opponent look tame Saturday, turning in an encouraging, well-rounded effort against the Nipissing Lakers.
Â
The U Sports no. 3-ranked McMaster Marauders swept the Lakers (25-17, 25-15, 25-18) for their fifth straight sweep and their tenth of the season. The Marauders have only lost three sets, which is the fewest in U Sports men's volleyball so far this season, as they improved to 13-0 in league play.
Â
Team chemistry was put on display as Mac saw contributions across the roster lead to the victory. Brandon Koppers had 14.5 points and the Marauders would have four reach double-digits. Jayson McCarthy (10.5) and Andrew Richards (10) both had solid outings.
Â
Danny Demyanenko would also contribute heavily in the team's win on Saturday. With his 13-point performance, Demyanenko improved his nation-leading hitting percentage to .542.
Â
Unfortunately for the Lakers, the Marauders high-powered offence proved too strong at the net. Heading into the matchup, the Lakers Jack Peckham and Mike Ballagh ranked among the U Sports top five for average blocks per set, but failed to tally one in the three sets against McMaster.
Â
Andrew Kocur and David Doty split the setting role as they combined for 34 of the Marauders' 35 assists against the Lakers.
Â
Steven Wood had eight points for a Lakers team that struggled offensively, only hitting .177 for the day.
Â
The Marauders have four games remaining in the regular season before they embark on their playoff run. McMaster will be in Waterloo on Friday, February 17 for their matchup against the Waterloo Warriors as they spend the weekend on the road, ending at Brock on Saturday, February 18.
