Box Score A vintage performance from Danny Demyanenko paced McMaster to their sixth straight win to begin the OUA season Saturday. Despite dropping their first set of the new campaign, the no. 2-ranked Marauders dispatched the Western Mustangs 3-1 in London to move to 6-0.
Set scores were 25-17, 21-25, 25-10 and 25-9 in favour of the Marauders, who have now won 18 of their 19 sets played through six matches.
Demyanenko was the leading light for the visitors in the win, with 13 kills on 21 attempts versus three errors (.476), two aces and four total blocks. Teammate Brandon Koppers also broke the 10-point threshold Saturday, with 8 kills, three aces and three blocks.
Setter Andrew Richards also excelled in the win, leading all players with 10 digs, while notching 29 assists and a whopping total of six aces.
McMaster clamped down on Western's offence throughout the match, holding the home side to just a .010 hitting average as a unit. The visitors awoke after dropping the second set, winning the third and fourth by 15 and 16 point margins, and hitting an incredible .636 collectively in the fourth.
Saturday marks a break in the OUA season, as the teams adjourn for the holidays. The Marauders, however, will not be idle over the break, with a home date with the Ohio State Buckeyes looming on December 30.
