Box Score The McMaster men’s volleyball team remained undefeated in league play, by sweeping the defending OUA champions from Queen’s 3-0 on Friday night.
The Marauders, who moved up to No. 3 in the CIS top-ten rankings this week, defeated the Gaels by set scores of 25-19, 26-24, and 25-22.
While Queen’s won the league title last year, it is fair to recognize the Gaels are a different team this season after the graduation of several standout players. Despite the player losses, the squad from Kingston remains a quality contender and McMaster Coach Dave Preston reminded his Marauders of that before the match.
“This was not a great effort by us,” said Coach Preston after the match. “We did enough to get the win, but we will have to be better than that and we will be!”
The McDonald’s BIG MAC of the game for the Marauders was third-year leftside Jori Mantha, who led the team with 18 points. Player of the game for Queen’s was Phillippe Goyer.
Other stat leaders saw both McMaster middles, Alex Elliott and Dany Demyanenko, chip in with10 points for the match. Setter Austin Campion-Smith was solid with 26 assists.
The Marauders now go to 2-0 in early season OUA play.
