Toronto - The McMaster men's volleyball team suffered their second loss of the OUA regular season on Friday night to the Ryerson Rams in Toronto.
Taking the first set to extra point, the Rams prevailed 26-24 and again in the second set 25-23. Down two sets to none, the Marauders had some work to do. Coming out in the third, the Marauders pummelled the Rams 25-12 and then against 25-19, forcing the fifth set.
In the fifth, despite having the momentum from the last two sets, the Marauders were unable to pull off the comback, losing in extra points 17-15.
Jori Mantha (Vanier, Ont.) scored a game-high 21 points in the loss with 15 kills and five aces and a block. Rookie Daniel Groenveld (Welland, Ont.)) had another 13 points for the Marauders with 11 kills and two aces and middle blocker Michael Sjonnesen (Cambridge, Ont.) had a game-high nine blocks for McMaster.
For the Rams, Luka Milosevic (Toronto) had 15 kills, two blocks and two aces for 19 points and Alex Dawson (Scarborough, Ont.) had another 19 points for Ryerson with 15 kills, three aces and a block. Roman Kabanov (Toronto) recorded 13 more kills and three more blocks for the Rams. Setter Aleksa Miladinovic (Belgrade, Serbia) had a game-high 40 assists.
The Marauders host the York Lions on Saturday, November 12 in their next game of the season.
