MARAUDER WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY TEAM EARNS OUA SILVER MEDAL

Ottawa, Ont. - The McMaster Marauders traveled to Ottawa, Ont. to compete at the 2011 OUA Championships, hosted by the Ottawa Gee-Gees. 

The No. 2 nationally-ranked women's team earned the OUA team silver medal. Two Marauders finished in the top ten including third-year Victoria Coates with a fourth place finish with a time of 17:50.1. NInth place went to McMaster's Jillian Wyman with a time of 18:20.1.

Sarah Haliburton finished 11th for McMaster at 18:29.3, Steph MacNeill earned the 13th place spot with a time of 18:31.5 and at 20th was Marauders Courtney Patterson at 18:44.3. Other respectable finishes for the Marauders included Sara Giovannetti with 28th place and rookie Chelsea MacKinnon finished 34th of a field of 111 runners.

OUA All-Stars for the Marauders included Coates, Wyman, Haliburton and MacNeill.

The Guelph Gryphons took home the team banner with six of ten finishing in the top ten. The individual gold medal went to Toronto's Tamara Jewett with a time of 17:33.5.

On the men's side, the McMaster Marauders finished fifth in the team scoring. The men's best finisher was Graham Bowes (Kanata, Ont.) with a 19th place finish at a time of 32:17.0. Andrew Yorke (Caledon East, Ont.) finished 23rd at 32:26.6, finishing at 27th was Marauder Taylor Reid (Terra Cotta, Ont.) with a time of 32:43.4 and at 31st was Cory McCurry (Bright's Grove, Ont.) at 32.50.0.

Other Marauders completing the race for McMaster included  Andrew Bysice (Oakville, Ont.) at 35th, Jordan Bierema (Uxbridge, Ont.) at 39th, and at 45th was Ryan Tice (Hamilton, Ont.). 

The Guelph Gryphons earned the team banner and Gryphons Andrew Nixon won the individual gold with a time of 30:51.8.

The last event of the cross country season takes place at the University of Sherbrooke who will host the 2011 CIS Championships on November 12.
