Hamilton, Ont. - The McMaster men's volleyball team had a successful first game of the 2011 OUA regular season with a three set win over the Windsor Lancers.
The Lancers would put up a fight in the first set. Recording ten kills, but seven errors, the Marauders would rise above with ten of their own and only two errors for a kill percentage of .364. McMaster took the first set 25-19.
In the second set, McMaster tallied another 13 kills and only three errors, taking down the Lancers 25-17. In the third, the Lancers would have no steam left for the dominating Marauders who won the third set by a scor eof 25-12 with a kill percentage at a .579.
Leading the way in kills for the Marauders was veteran Jeremy Groenveld (Welland, Ont.) with ten kills and two blocks. Second-year Jori Mantha (Vanier, Ont.) had another nine for the Marauders with a game-high eight digs. Middle hitter Michael Sjonnesen (Cambridge, Ont.) had three blocks for McMaster with five kills.
Kyle Williamson (Essex, Ont.) would earn the most points for the Lancers with eight kills and two aces. and Ryan Le (Windsor, Ont.) would add another six kills to the Windsor attack.
The Marauders will host the Western Mustangs in a rematch of last years OUA Championship final where McMaster came out on top. Game time is 8:00 p.m. at Burridge Gymnasium.
