Hamilton, Ont. - The McMaster women's water polo season got underway this weekend with games hosted by the Toronto Varsity Blues.
McMaster played the hosting Varsity Blues in their first game on Saturday. Scoring in the first for McMaster was Chaneesa Ryan early on but the Blues held the Marauders to just one goal and scored 4 of their own with a final score of 4-1 in favour of the Blues.
Next up for the Marauders was the Carleton Ravens. The defending champs took down the Marauders 9-1. Scoring McMaster's lone goal was Danielle McCallum in the second/
On Sunday, the Marauders took on the Ottawa Titans in their last game of the weekend. Ottawa struck twice in the first and McCallum matched that with one of her own. In the second both teams scored one each for Ottawa to hold the one goal lead. Nadine Asmis scored the second goal for the Marauders. Ryan tied it up for McMaster in the third but in the fourth, the Titans would hold out on defence and score three for the 6-3 win.
Later that day, the Maruders faced the Carleton Ravens in a rematch of Saturday's game. Both teams scored on in the first, McMaster's coming from Ryan, before the Ravens scored two more in the seocnd to go up 3-1. In the third, McMaster struck again for Ryan's second of the game and in the fourth H. Dimitra scored her first of the weekend. It wouldn't be enough to overtake Carleton as the defending champs won 7-3.
