File and Refosco named TwelvEighty Athletes of the Week

HAMILTON, Ont. — Women's cross country runner Ruby File (Collingwood, Ont.) and men's soccer defender Damiano Refosco (Hamilton, Ont.) have been named this week's TwelvEighty Athletes of the Week following standout performances for the Marauders.

Ruby File — Cross Country

Rookie Ruby File led McMaster at Saturday's Vigars & Salter Western Invitational, placing fifth overall in the women's eight-kilometre race. File crossed the line in 29 minutes, 10 seconds, averaging 3:38 per kilometre. She was the first Marauder to finish and the second rookie across the line, just two seconds behind Guelph's Mikala Ryan.

Her fifth-place result earned McMaster five points toward the team standings and set the pace for a second-place finish. Emma Elliott followed in seventh, giving the Marauders two runners in the top 10. Ana Morariu placed 12th, Kara Tichbourne finished 14th and Sophie Trott completed McMaster's scoring five in 22nd.

The Marauders totaled 59 points, finishing 10 behind Windsor and 15 ahead of Guelph. McMaster's five scoring runners crossed the line within one minute and 48 seconds of one another. File's performance at the front of that group marked a strong showing in her rookie cross country season.

Damiano Refosco — Men's Soccer

Damiano Refosco scored in both matches and added an assist as McMaster men's soccer earned two wins over the weekend.

On Friday against Guelph, the defender scored unassisted in the 44th minute to give the Marauders a 3–0 halftime lead. After Guelph pulled a goal back early in the second half, Refosco set up Niko Eskit's 82nd-minute goal to seal a 4–1 McMaster victory.

Refosco delivered the decisive play again on Sunday at Waterloo. With the match scoreless late in the second half, he struck in the 87th minute for the only goal of a 1–0 win. Goalkeeper Ethan Cagalj made three saves to preserve the shutout.

Across the two matches, Refosco recorded two goals, one assist and three shots on target. His contributions helped the Marauders collect all six points, with a goal in each match and a direct hand in sealing both victories.
