Hamilton, Ont. - Marauders packed in another busy week of games, highlighted by strong performances from women's basketball and women's volleyball, with the volleyball team earning back-to-back wins over Nipissing and women's basketball picking up a key victory on January 17. Several other programs were also in action, including wrestling, track, curling, swimming, and squash, all putting together soild performances throughout the weekend.

The McMaster Marauders battled hard but fell 77–69 to Laurentian in an intense matchup. McMaster jumped out to an early lead with strong interior play from Riaz Saliu (Oshawa, Ont.) and quick transition buckets from Tyler Garcia (Mississauga, Ont.), while Jack McMahan (Burlington, Ont.) hit key threes to give the Marauders a 25–17 first-quarter advantage. Ares Culley-Bremner (Hamilton, Ont.) anchored the paint with blocks and rebounds, keeping McMaster ahead 44–38 at halftime. Laurentian mounted a comeback in the third, pulling ahead despite timely threes from McMahan and Garcia. In the fourth, the Marauders continued to fight, with McMahan and Jeremiah Francis (Surrey, B.C.) connecting from deep and Garcia driving to the hoop, but free throws down the stretch secured the win for Laurentian.

The McMaster Marauders fought hard on the road but came up short against the Nipissing Lakers in a competitive matchup. McMaster got off to a balanced start, with Riaz Saliu (Oshawa, Ont.) driving to the hoop and connecting on early layups, while James Kelly (Toronto, Ont.) added a corner three to keep the Marauders within striking distance. Nipissing responded with inside finishes, building a 23–12 lead by the end of the first quarter.
McMaster tightened the defense in the second, with Saliu and Kelly generating steals and creating transition opportunities. Jeremiah Francis (Surrey, B.C.) and Isaiah Flores (Whitby, Ont.) contributed in the paint, helping McMaster chip away at the lead and trailing just 37–34 at one point. Despite a strong third quarter that featured scoring from Jack McMahan (Burlington, Ont.) and Tyler Garcia (Mississauga, Ont.), Nipissing maintained a steady edge, hitting timely threes to lead 57–47 heading into the fourth.
In the final frame, McMaster mounted a late push behind layups from Saliu and a three-pointer from Francis, narrowing the gap to 73–70 with under a minute remaining. The Marauders forced turnovers and continued to attack, but Nipissing converted crucial free throws down the stretch to secure the 77–70 win.

McMaster showed resilience throughout Friday night's game, battling against the Laurentian Voyageurs on Friday night.
The Marauders kept the game competitive early, weathering a fast Laurentian start and responding with aggressive play in the second quarter. McMaster attacked the rim and capitalized at the free-throw line, shooting a perfect 10-for-10 in the frame to stay within reach at halftime.
Defensively, McMaster delivered its strongest stretch in the third quarter, holding Laurentian to just nine points. The Marauders continued to pressure the ball, contest shots, and force tough possessions, preventing the game from getting out of hand.
Offensively, Carly McBain (Guelph, Ont.) led the way with a team-high 18 points, consistently driving to the basket and drawing fouls. Sophia Urosevic (Kitchener, Ont.) added 13 points, knocking down two three-pointers and providing steady scoring across heavy minutes. Tayler Scott (Burlington, Ont.) recorded a strong all-around performance with 11 points and nine rebounds, while Emily Frankovic (Thornhill, Ont.) chipped in 11 points and went a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line.
McMaster finished with 46 rebounds and continued to battle late into the fourth quarter, but shooting struggles from the field limited the comeback effort. Despite the final score, the Marauders' defensive intensity and effort on the glass highlighted key positives moving forward.

The McMaster Marauders earned a hard-fought 90–82 road victory over the Nipissing Lakers on Friday night, using balanced scoring and a dominant second half to pull away late.
McMaster came out aggressive in the opening quarter, answering an early Nipissing three with strong finishes in the paint. Carly McBain (Guelph, Ont.) and Sophia Urosevic (Kitchener, Ont.) led the early offensive push, while Tayler Scott (Burlington, Ont.) established a presence inside on both ends of the floor. After several lead changes, Urosevic capped the quarter with a buzzer-beating three to give the Marauders a 27–24 advantage after one.
The second quarter saw McMaster maintain control through composure and depth. Scott continued to anchor the paint, while Urosevic and Emily Frankovic (Thornhill, Ont.) added timely scoring. Jordan Denkers (Hamilton, Ont.) and Grace Ammendolia (Hamilton, Ont.) contributed key defensive stops as the Marauders weathered Nipissing runs and carried a narrow 51–49 lead into halftime.
Coming out of the break, McMaster delivered its strongest stretch of the game. Defensive pressure led to steals and transition opportunities, with Urosevic knocking down a momentum-shifting three and Scott converting consistently inside. The Marauders steadily built separation throughout the third, closing out the game with confidence, securing a 90–82 win.
Men's Volleyball

The McMaster Marauders pulled off an impressive comeback at Burridge Gym this Friday, rallying from a two-set deficit to defeat the Nipissing Lakers 3–2.
McMaster kept things tight early, trading points through long rallies as kills from Kaden Zunti (Burlington, Ont.) and Jack Mackley (Toronto, Ont.) helped the Marauders briefly take control. Strong connections between Ronan Huth (Edmonton, Alta.) and Mekhi Fitzgerald (Milton, Ont.) kept Mac in front late, but Nipissing edged out the opening stretch to build an early advantage, finishing at 22-25.
The Lakers carried momentum into the next set, widening the gap despite steady pressure from McMaster. Strategic kills from Kaden Zunti (Burlington, Ont.) kept the Marauders within reach, but Nipissing held on to take a two-set lead, ending the set at 18-25
McMaster surged midway through the third set, sparked by an impressive dig from Huth and Jarrett's kill, who then added both a key kill and a solo block. Blocks from Huth and Fitzgerald and a timely attack from Jarrett yet again forced Nipissing into timeouts as the Marauders pulled ahead. After the Lakers briefly tied it late, McMaster responded, and Fitzgerald closed the set with a big kill to secure the 25–21 win, making the final score 1-2.
McMaster responded with urgency, sparked by blocks from Rendulic, Jarrett, and Zunti, anchoring the defence, while a big serve from Fitzgerald helped swing momentum in the Marauders favour. Jarrett continued to deliver at the net, tying the set with his 13th kill and following it up with another strong finish after a long rally. A solo block from Fitzgerald sealed the set 25–20, completing the comeback and levelling the match at 2–2.
With Burridge on its feet, the Marauders stayed composed in the final stretch. Kills from Zunti and Jarrett swung momentum early, and Fitzgerald delivered back-to-back points late to bring McMaster to match point. The Marauders sealed the comeback with a 15–13 finish, completing a hard-fought 3–2 win.

The McMaster Marauders (5-9) dropped a hard-fought 3-1 decision to the Nipissing Lakers (7-7) on Saturday evening.
Nipissing jumped out to an early lead in the opening, putting pressure on the Marauders. McMaster answered with key attacks to keep the score within reach, but a late Lakers push sealed a 25-16 set win.
McMaster responded in the second set, with Grayson Jarrett (Camrose, Alta.) opening the scoring. In a tightly contested rally, Kaden Zunti (Burlington, Ont.) delivered a kill set up from Ashton Fox-Kristensen (Elora, Ont.) to give the Marauders the upper hand. After the score was tied late, Nipissing edged out a 26-24 win.
The Marauders showed resilience in the third set, anchored by strong defensive play. Matthias Cooper (Hamilton, Ont.) and Ronan Huth (Edmonton, Alta.) added key blocks, and Huth closed the set with an ace to secure a 25-22 victory and extend the match.
Nipissing regained control in the fourth set. Despite key plays from McMaster, the Marauders were unable to close the gap, as the Lakers claimed the set 25-18 to seal the 3-1 win.

The McMaster Marauders came out on top against the Nipissing Lakers, securing a 3–1 win after four competitive sets this Friday at Burridge Gymnasium.
McMaster came out strong in the opening set, with early kills from Abby Delamere (Toronto, Ont.) and Olivia Julien (Toronto, Ont.) setting the pace. Lucie Shaver (Surrey, B.C.) found the corner to keep the Marauders ahead as the Marauders maintained offensive pressure. Nipissing battled back to even the score and edged out the set 26–24, despite McMaster's steady momentum throughout.
The Marauders responded immediately in the second set. Julien opened with a kill, while Angelika Vidmar (Etobicoke, Ont.) and Charlie Dean (Calgary, AB) capitalized on long rallies early in the set to build up the gap. Strong moments at the net, including multiple finishes from Julien and a key block from Vidmar, pushed Nipissing into a timeout. McMaster stayed in control the rest of the way, closing the set 25–18 on a kill from Delamere to tie the match 1–1.
Set three saw McMaster continue to assert themselves. Early kills from Shaver and Delamere widened the gap, while strong defensive work from Jennifer Wu (Burlington, Ont.) and a block from Julien and Delamere kept the momentum on McMaster's side. The Marauders held firm through a late push from the Lakers and sealed the set 25–19 to take a 2–1 lead.
The fourth set belonged to McMaster. Julien caught fire, reaching 15 kills of the night, while Delamere and Keira Elliott (Aurora, Ont.) added decisive finishes to stretch the lead early. A smart attack from Chayse Victoria (Oakville, Ont.) kept Nipissing on its heels, and a final kill from Delamere closed out the set 25–13, securing the 3–1 victory.

The McMaster Marauders (11-3) extended their four-game win streak on Saturday afternoon, sweeping the Nipissing Lakers (3-11) 3-0.
The opening set saw early back-and-forth scoring. Angelika Vidmar (Etobicoke, Ont.) fired an ace to give McMaster a slight edge, while Abby Delamere (Toronto, Ont.) kept Nipissing in contention, tying the score 12-12. Vidmar closed the set with a final kill, and a Lakers attack error handed the Marauders a 25-22 win. The second set followed a similar pattern. Charlie Dean (Calgary, AB.) delivered a sneaky kill to keep the score tight, and strong defensive work from Maddy Lutes (Barrie, Ont.) and Delamere resulted in a key block.
Back-to-back kills from Lucie Shaver (Surrey, B.C.) set up the set point, and Kailee Young (Toronto, Ont.) served an ace to secure a 25-18 victory. McMaster remained consistent in the third set. Lutes delivered an ace, followed by timely kills from her teammates. Vidmar added another ace, and Shaver's final kill clinched a 26-24 set and completed the sweep.

January 18 - Western Open, London, Ont. | Results
Men's:
McMaster men's wrestling delivered a gritty team effort at the Western Open on Sunday. The Marauders were led by fourth-place finishes from Kamrin Marotta at 65 kg and Sarpatap Lally at 82 kg, while Gianluca Fortino (65 kg), Andre Mkrbrada (76 kg), and Omogbai Asekohme (100 kg) each placed sixth to add key team points. The Marauders squad finished sixth overall with 27 points in a deep field. The performance provided valuable experience and momentum as they head into the home stretch of the OUA season.
Women's:
McMaster women's wrestling turned in a strong showing at the Western Open on Sunday, highlighted by multiple podium finishes. Macy Malysiak led the way with a gold medal at 62 kg, while Megann Nkenglack claimed silver at 83 kg and Olivia Lichti added another silver at 62 kg to anchor the Marauders' results. Competing against a deep and talented field, the Marauders demonstrated depth, toughness, and consistency across weight classes. They will finish off their regular season next week in Guelph before the OUA Championship in two weeks.

At the Don Wright Challenge in London on Saturday, McMaster athletes had strong performances across several distance events. In the men's 1000m, Tristan Bouius finished 5th in 2:30.47. The men's 1500m saw Samuel Patrick take first in 3:48.33, with William Weist placing 4th in 3:54.05. In the men's 3000m, Marco Di Felice earned 2nd in 8:35.47 and Derek Strachan 3rd in 8:42.12. On the women's side, Olivia Macaskill claimed 3rd place in the 1500m with a time of 4:35.33.

January 17 - Brock Invitational, St. Catharines, Ont. | Results
Men's
The McMaster Marauders competed against a deep field this weekend at the Brock Invitational in Welland Ontario. After fighting through several competitive match ups, they ultimately finished fourth in the C Pool at 1-3-0. The Marauders showed resiliency through loss in their first three match ups against Laurier (1-7), Toronto (3-9), and Brock (4-9). After the tough competition, they came back to win their final match up of the weekend against Brock JV (4-2).
Women's
The McMaster Marauders showed a strong performance this weekend at the Brock invitational, ultimately finishing first in the C Pool at 3-1-0. The Marauders opened the tournament with a tight matchup against Laurier (7-3) resulting in a loss. Their momentum only grew from that match as they won their next three matches against Toronto (7-3), Brock (9-2), and Brock JV (8-5). McMaster stayed consistent throughout their matches averaging 6.75 points per game, resulting in the C Pool win.

Swimming
January 17 - McMaster Tri-Meet, Hamilton, Ont.
This Saturday, the McMaster Marauders swim team hosted the University of Waterloo and the University of Guelph for a tri meet at the McMaster Pool. The Marauders showed a strong performance, taking first in 41 out of the 60 individual events across the two session meet. In addition, both the men's and women's teams swept the relay events, finishing first in all four of their respective events.
The Marauders had several strong performances that contributed to success this past weekend. Michelle Wang (Port Elgin, Ont.) took home gold in three of her events, including 50 fly (both sessions), and 50 free. First year athlete, Fiona Brophy (Carleton Place, Ont.) also took home an impressive three first place finishes in the 50 backstroke (both sessions), and 100 backstroke.
On the men's side, Emilio Gonzalez Maciel (Estada De Mexico, Mex.) earned five gold medals for the Marauders. He took first place in the 200 freestyle (both sessions), 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, and 100 backstroke. Hayden Yeung (Hong Kong, China) took first place in three events, the 50 breaststroke (both sessions), and 100 butterfly.
