Waterloo, Ont. — The McMaster Marauders women's rugby team (1-0) opened their season in dominant fashion with a 61-7 victory over the Waterloo Warriors (0-1) on August 30th.
McMaster brought an abundance of offensive strength with multiple Marauders cross the try line. A trio of players crossed the line twice including Tara Godfrey (Georgetown, Ont.), in her McMaster debut. Although in her first game as a Marauder, Godfrey brings great skill and experience to the McMaster line up. Playing at McMaster also gives Godfrey the opportunity to reunite with her former high school coach from Georgetown District High School, now McMaster head coach, Chris Jones. Matching Godfrey's double try game was fourth year Chayse Palfi (Keswick, Ont.) and third year Caroline Dunlop (Calgary, Alta.). Palfi also added more 3 conversions kicks to extend the Marauder lead.
Also making it across the try line for the Marauders was Sammi Slater (Guelph, Ont.), Zero Salmoni (Waterloo, Ont.), Elise Voskamp (Kingston, Ont.), Calista Aarts (London, Ont.), and Verena Marsig (Stouffville, Ont.).
With the win, McMaster sets an early tone in OUA competition, with a great overall team performance and will look to build on their early momentum as they continue OUA league play.
