HAMILTON, Ont. — On Saturday, the McMaster Marauders (4-2) faced the Western Mustangs (3-3) in an OUA quarter final match up at home. McMaster's season fell short as they were defeated 37-24.
McMaster was on the scoreboard less than two minutes into the game with a try from Taylor Wood (Uxbridge, Ont.). Western would answer back quickly to tie the score 5-5 and then take the lead 10-5 with another try.
McMaster would tie it up again halfway through the first half with a try from Samantha Slater (Guelph, Ont.) and with the conversion from Chayse Palfi (Keswick, Ont.), they would take a 12-10 lead.
Western would find the end zone twice more before the end of the first half to put them up 22-12.
The second half would start with two more tries from Western putting them up 32-12.
McMaster would then make a late second half run starting with a drive down the centre for a try by Osa Olaye (Mississauga, Ont.). Palfi would add the conversion to put McMaster within striking distance. Another try would come from Samantha Slater (Guelph, Ont.) in the second half to make the score 32-24 for Western.
Despite the late second-half push, Western would score another last minute try to win the game 37-24. This loss closes out the Marauders' 2024 season.
