OUA honours for Kata and Marsig

HAMILTON, Ont. – McMaster's women's rugby players Verena Marsig (Stouffville, Ont.) and Julia Kata (Milton, Ont.) were named OUA All-Stars on Wednesday afternoon as the 2025 major awards and all-stars were announced. 

Verena Marsig (Stouffville, Ont.) – Second Team All-Star

Marsig has earned selection to the OUA Second Team All-Stars following a strong 2025 campaign. In her second year, Marsig played as a back-row and made her impact felt from the outset, scoring a try in the season-opening 61-7 win vs. the Waterloo Warriors. Earlier she had been named Marauder Athlete of the Week for her physical performance and try-scoring against the Laurier Golden Hawks. Throughout the season she consistently contributed strong carries, support-play, and contact-zone dominance, helping her team in both offensive and defensive phases. Her leadership and reliability in the back row were key factors in her all-star recognition.

Kata made an immediate impact in her debut season, showcasing her strength and technical prowess in the scrum and line out. Her presence in the forward pack was instrumental in McMaster's competitive performances throughout the season. Kata's contributions were pivotal in securing key victories and challenging top-tier teams. Her selection to the OUA Second Team All-Stars underscores her exceptional talent and potential in the sport. Kata's achievement marks a significant milestone in her rugby career, highlighting her as a rising star in Canadian university rugby.
