OTTAWA –
Nathan Janzen has been selected as a Lead Coach of the youth national volleyball team for the 2023 Women's Canada Cup. Volleyball Canada announced the selection of the 2023 Women's Canada Cup Lead Coaches earlier this month.
The Lead Assistant Coach of the McMaster women's volleyball program has extensive experience at the provincial, varsity and national levels. Janzen began coaching on the national stage in 2013 as the Assistant Coach for the Men's Junior National Team which competed at the FIVB World Junior Championships in Turkey. He took on a coaching role with the Youth Women's National Team in 2019 for the U18 World Championships in Egypt. Alongside his national experience, Janzen has also spent time as a coach with Team Ontario, where he was the Assistant Coach of the 18U Boys in 2014 and the Head Coach with the 16U Boys the following year. His Team Ontario coaching tenure was highlighted by the 18U Boys winning gold at the 2017 Canada Games, an event he attended as an Assistant Coach.
In addition, the Hamilton local was named Head Coach of the Niagara College Women's Volleyball Program in March of 2016, a position he held for two years. Coach Janzen has spent time with both the women's and men's programs at McMaster over his 11 years as a Marauder. He is also one of few coaches who has won both a men's and women's OUA Championship in the same year, as a member of both Marauder coaching staffs.
Janzen and the top youth athletes from across the country will train from July 6th to July 18th in St. Catharines, Ont. Team Canada Red and Team Canada White will compete at the 2023 Canada Cup from July 19th to 23rd at the Canada Games Park and Brock University.
The Marauder coaching staff and maroon and grey will host the Toronto Varsity Blues in the 2023-24 OUA season opener on November 4th in Burridge Gymnasium. Game time is set for 1pm. Season tickets will be available for purchase beginning September 5
