HAMILTON, Ont. - The McMaster Marauders women's rugby team put on a show for their home crowd at Ron Joyce Stadium on Saturday.
In the maroon and grey's 2022 home opener, the Marauders looked to move to 2-1 in the standings and maintain a perfect record against the Laurier Golden Hawks.
On Saturday, it was all McMaster, from start to finish, as the host Marauders rolled to a 77-0 victory.
The Marauders opened the scoring just a minute and a half into the contest with a try from
Sophia Cornacchia (Richmond Hill, Ont.). The maroon and grey continued the offence, recording seven tries in the opening 40 minutes of play to make the score 41-0 at the half.
After the break, the home team dominated and continued the scoring to take the game by a convincing 77-0 scoreline.
Katie McLeod (Richmond Hill, Ont.) had one try and six converts while
Lillian Wilson (Ajax, Ont.),
Jill Cope (Newmarket, Ont.),
Sophia Cornacchia (Richmond Hill, Ont.),
Vanessa Webb (Barrie, Ont.),
Zoe Spronk (Camden East, Ont.) and
Lina Bakri (Mississauga, Ont.)Â each recorded a try throughout the contest.Â
Ila Bett (Keswick, Ont.) and
Taylor Wood (Uxbridge, Ont.) were the leading scorers on Saturday with each recording three tries for 15 points.
The Marauders move to 2-1 on the season while the Golden Hawks fall to 0-3.
