It was a successful draft on Tuesday for our Marauders football team that witnessed three of their best get called to the big stage on CFL Draft night. Taking the next step in their professional careers were Enoch Penney-Laryea, Chase Arseneau, and Nate Edwards.
Penney-Laryea – a 6'1, 230lbs defensive lineman – was the first name off the board for the Marauders, being selected 26th overall in the third round by the Toronto Argonauts
The Humanities major was a nightmare for visiting offensive teams, going for 11 solo tackles and 2.5 sacks as a dominant defensive end. Moving on to the national combine after shocking scouts the regional combine, Penney-Laryea posted top five marks in the broad jump (2nd – 10'7"), bench press (2nd – 27), vertical (39.5"), and 40-yard dash (5th – 4.58).
Also selected by the Argonauts, Arseneau – a 6'4, 225lbs tight-end – was taken 62nd overall in the seventh round of the draft.
The Sociology major went for 10 receptions on the season for 80 total yards and one touchdown in six games played. An athletic offensive threat, with plenty of upside as he looks to advance his career in the professional realm, much can be said of Arseneau's future prospects.
Selected four picks afterwards was Edwards – a 6'2, 240lbs linebacker – who went 66th overall in the eighth round to the Edmonton Elks.
The Commerce major featured on the CFL Prospects top 100 list going into the draft, after recording 33 tackles on the season, including a season-high nine against the Windsor Lancers, along with two sacks.
