Barresi Earns CFL Opportunity with Tiger-Cats QB Internship

Third-year Marauder to gain pro experience during Hamilton’s training camp

Toronto, Ont. — Third-year quarterback Lucas Barresi (Hamilton, Ont.) is taking the next step in his football journey, earning a spot with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats through the Canadian Football League's QB Internship program this summer.

Announced by the Canadian Football League, the program will run from the start of rookie camps on May 6 through the conclusion of training camps on May 30. Barresi will be on the field alongside professional quarterbacks, gaining valuable experience in practices while also participating in team and positional meetings.

Since its launch in 2010, the QB Internship program has provided U SPORTS quarterbacks with a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the professional environment. For Barresi, the experience represents both a reward for his early success and a chance to accelerate his development heading into his third university season.

In his most recent season with the Marauders, Barresi showcased his dual-threat ability. The Hamilton native appeared in seven games and made two starts, including one in the postseason, while completing 58.5 percent of his passes for 667 yards. He threw five touchdowns and added three more on the ground, totaling 114 rushing yards.

Remaining close to home, Barresi will now step into a professional environment with the Tiger-Cats during one of the most competitive stretches of the year. The opportunity to learn pro systems, adjust to increased speed, and work alongside experienced quarterbacks is expected to play a key role in his continued development.

Hamilton's preseason schedule begins May 18, with the regular season kicking off June 4 when the Tiger-Cats host the Montreal Alouettes.

For Barresi, the internship is more than just a summer opportunity. It is a glimpse into the next level and a chance to bring that experience back to McMaster as he continues to grow into a key leader under center.
