LONDON, Ont. - The McMaster men's lacrosse team's season came to an end Friday night in London, Ont., as the Marauders dropped a 15-3 final to the Western Mustangs in a Baggataway Cup play-in game.
The No. 2 Western Mustangs dominated Friday night's contest, with four goals from four different players in the opening quarter. The hosts continued their attacking prowess in the second quarter, finding the back of the Marauder net an additional five times to lead 9-0 at the halftime break.
Vincent Milantoni (Oakville, Ont.) got the Marauders on the board early in the third before Western scored twice more. McMaster's Brian Huyghue (Halifax, N.S.) closed out the quarter's scoring to make it 11-2 after 45 minutes.
Mitchell Pellarin (Orillia, Ont.), the regular season scoring champion across CUFLA, added one more for the Marauders to bring the maroon and grey's total to three. The host Mustangs responded, scoring four more goals to put the game away and secure the victory.
The Western Mustangs will now head to the Baggataway Cup hosted by the Trent Excalibur from November 4th to 6th in search of the CUFLA title.
With Friday's outcome, the Marauders fall just short of the Baggataway and finish the season with a 4-7 record. McMaster will now begin preparations for the 2023 season.
