TORONTO Ont. - The McMaster Marauders women's rugby team traveled to Toronto for a Saturday night match-up with the York Lions in the final road trip of the regular season.
In a tight battle for the playoffs, the Marauders needed a win to keep their post-season hopes alive.
On Saturday, McMaster surged in the second half to drop the Lions by a 47-10 final scoreline.
Ila Bett (Keswick, Ont.) opened the scoring for the Marauders six minutes into the game to take an early lead.
Jill Cope (Newmarket, Ont.) and
Taylor Wood (Uxbridge, Ont.) each scored tries in the first half while captain,
Katie McLeod (Richmond Hill, Ont.), added two conversions to lead the York Lions 19-3 at the half.
After the break, McMaster continued the momentum, combining for an additional 28 points in the second half. Despite a late score by the Lions, the Marauders were out of reach, easily securing the win.
The Marauders move to 3-2 while the Lions fall to 1-4.

The Marauders return home for the 2022 OUA regular season finale on Friday October 7th at 7pm against the Brock Badgers. Both teams hold identical 3-2 records.
