Women's Rugby: McMaster Falls 49-12 to Defending OUA Champion Guelph

The Marauders found consolation in a pair of second half tries

A young Marauders team in transition faced a tough task Saturday, opening the OUA season against the defending conference champions, the Guelph Gryphons, at Ron Joyce Stadium.

Despite falling behind 29-0 at the half, the home side remained engaged in the second, and crafted a pair of tries before ultimately falling to a 49-12 defeat.

Senior and team captain Britni French scored one of her team's two tries on the night, while rookie Jerri McRogers enjoyed a personal milestone in the loss by crossing the line for her first OUA try.

Third-year fly half Tia Svoboda added the team's remaining points, converting one of the two tries.

Guelph's Talia Hoffman and Emily Nicholl each crossed the try line twice, while Mikaila Irving, Marissa Themeks and Nerina Hill each added single tries for the Gryphons.

NEXT UP: McMaster heads out on the road for another difficult test on Saturday, September 7, when the Marauders battle the Queen's Gaels in Kingston at 1:00 p.m.
