Women's Rugby: Mac Books Spot in OUA Semifinal with 71-0 Win over Trent

The Marauders scored 11 tries through nine different players in Saturday’s quarterfinal

It has become a yearly custom at Ron Joyce Stadium: the Marauders women's rugby team making quick work of a quarterfinal opponent under the lights.

Saturday's encounter with the Trent Excalibur was no different, with McMaster scoring 11 tries en route to a 71-0 victory and its second consecutive shutout of an OUA opponent.

With the win, the Marauders earned a berth in the conference semifinals and a trip to Guelph on Friday, October 11 to rematch the Gryphons. The two teams opened the season against one another on August 31, with Guelph earning the 49-12 decision at Ron Joyce Stadium.

The veteran duo of fly half Tia Svoboda and centre Maddi Cohoon each scored a pair of tries, while Stacey Warner, Alissa Zhang, Brii English, Monique Sluys, Madeline Drinovac, Brit French and Maddy Coathup each crossed the try line once.

Svoboda added a convert for a total of 12 points, while Katie McLeod led all Marauders with 14 points, converting seven times.

With Saturday's effort, McMaster has racked up three consecutive wins after opening the regular season 0-2, and has outscored their opponents in those matches by a total of 196-5.
