Box Score The cards dropped significantly, but the drama remained between McMaster and Guelph Wednesday. Two weeks after playing to a spirited draw, the two teams did so again at Ron Joyce Stadium, with the Marauders and Gryphons splitting the points at 2-2.
Yunus Mollayev remained among the goal leaders in the OUA, after adding to his tally from the penalty spot, while Mac's rookie striker Dusan Kovacevic notched his third goal of the season. McMaster moved to 2-2-2 on the year, good for fifth in the OUA West division.
Guelph got goals from Tomasz Skublak and Jace Kotsopoulos, and maintained their unbeaten start to 2016.
First blood went the way of the visitors, as Skublak caught the Marauders with a well-taken set piece, pumping a shot past Mac keeper Kieran Doyle-Davis in the 32nd minute.
Reacting well to the early setback, the Marauders would peg the Gryphons back almost immediately, as an incisive run from Shawn Faustino yielded a foul in the box, and Mollayev confidently fired the spot kick home in the 38th.
A controversial tackle just before the halftime break gave a hint of the chippy tone that would dominate the second 45. With the intensity ramping up, it was the Marauders who looked most likely to find a breakthrough.
That moment came in the 74th minute, when a well-taken corner bounced to Kovacevic at the far post, and he delicately flicked the ball up, over the Guelph keeper, and into the yawning goal.
But McMaster's jubilation was short-lived, as the Gryphons were the beneficiaries of a penalty decision of their own in the 81st, and Kotsopoulos calmly converted from the spot to level the match yet again.
