MEN'S SOCCER: MARAUDERS SCORE LATE TO DEFEAT BADGERS

Box Score The McMaster Marauders scored two late second-half goals to defeat the Brock Badgers 2-0 on Sunday afternoon at Ron Joyce Stadium.

Both teams had to deal with oppressive heat, with temperatures on the field in the high 30's.

McMaster controlled play in the opening half and spent the majority of play in the Brock end of the pitch.  In the 18th minute it looked like Marauder Chris Luxton had finished off a nice three-way passing play to grab the lead, but the offside flag went up and the goal was nullified.

Brock was content to remain in a defensive posture, and wait for chances on the counter-attack, but McMaster keeper Angelo Cavalluzzo did not face any quality chances and the half ended with the teams scoreless.

McMaster coach Dino Perri shuffled the line-up at halftime with immediate results as the Mac attack took on new momentum.  The Marauders had several quality scoring chances but were stymied at finding the back of the net.  When Gersi Xhuti headed a ball that hit the crossbar and stayed out it looked like Brock might escape with the draw.

But in the 75th minute, Xhuti made a clever pass to Karl Bicamumpaka, who fooled the Brock keeper and put the Marauders in front 1-0.  Four minutes later, Marco Gennaccaro made a strong run down the right side and crossed to Yunus Mollayev, who made no mistake with his strike, making the score 2-0.

With 10 minutes left and both teams fighting the heat, Brock could not make any kind of late charge and the Marauders were able to close out the victory.  Angelo Cavalluzzo did not have many chances to deal with as he registered the clean sheet.

The Marauders will next travel to face arch-rival York on September 10th in a match-up of the No. 1 and No. 4 ranked teams in the nation.
