MARAUDERS GO FOR THREE-PEAT AT OUA VOLLEYBALL FINAL-FOUR

With the potential for five more matches in the CIS men's volleyball season, the McMaster Marauders will take them one at a time, starting with their OUA Final Four clash with the Windsor Lancers Friday night at 8 p.m. in the Burridge Gymnasium.

The Marauders (19-1) will be looking to capture their third consecutive OUA championship on their home floor, and sixth league title in the last eight seasons. Since losing the opening match of the season to Western in October, McMaster has won 19 straight and has moved into the top spot in the CIS Top-Ten rankings. McMaster features the 2015 OUA MVP Danny Demyanenko, but also has tremendous depth with all-stars Austin Campion-Smith, Jori Mantha and Brandon Koppers.

Windsor (9-11) enters the Final Four as the event's Cinderella story, getting the final playoff spot by virtue of a tie-breaker with Guelph, and then upsetting the second-seeded Ryerson Rams 3-1 in Toronto. The Lancers have never won the Forsyth Trophy, given to the league champion, and will be trying to ride their momentum and continue in the role of giant-killer against McMaster.

Friday's first semifinal will feature the Waterloo Warriors (13-7) taking on the York Lions (13-7), and will start at 5:30 p.m.

Waterloo finally got the purple monkey off its back by defeating the Western Mustangs 3-2 in the quarterfinals. In each of the previous two seasons, Western had eliminated the Warriors at the Final Four, so ending the Mustang season in 2015 must have tasted sweet to Coach Chris Lawson and his team. Waterloo features a veteran lineup, and all-stars Jordan Dyck, Jordan McConkey and Zach Doherty will be looking to get to their first OUA Final. The Warriors last won the OUA title in 1990.

York comes into the Final Four after defeating Queen's 3-1 in the quarter-finals. Fifth-year all-star Ray Szeto will be trying to end his outstanding career by earning a CIS berth, while OUA Rookie of the Year Josh Henderson will try to start his varsity career the same way. The Lions will be looking to win their 10th OUA crown this weekend and first since 2005.

With the OUA having three berths to the CIS tournament this season, both of the teams that advance on Friday night are guaranteed spots at the National Championships being held in Saskatoon. Friday's losing teams still have a shot at advancing to the CIS tournament and will play on Saturday for the OUA bronze medal, with the winner of that match garnering a berth at the nationals.
