MEN'S SOCCER SWEEPS SEASON SERIES WITH CIS NO. 1 YORK

The York Lions have gone untouched by nearly all of their competitors in the OUA this season. But the Marauders proved themselves the exception to that rule yet again on Saturday. McMaster took the lead just before halftime and never looked back, en route to a 1-0 victory over York in Toronto.

The result is the Marauders (7-2-2) second win of the season against the CIS no. 1-ranked Lions (9-2-0), who are perfect against all other opponents in the conference through 11 games.

York finished with eight shots on goal to McMaster's two, but it was the visiting team that broke the run of play to score in the 44th minute, when the ball took a fortunate deflection off of York midfielder Arthur Casupanan and into the back of the Lions net.

The Marauders put up the barricades in the second half, and successfully defended their slim advantage with the help of a strong goaltending performance by Angelo Cavalluzzo, who refused to concede in the face of pressure from the nation's best. McMaster earned its fourth clean sheet of the season in keeping York off the board on Saturday.

McMaster will look to continue its winning ways at home on Sunday, as the Marauders welcome the UOIT Ridgebacks to Ron Joyce Stadium for the final act of Homecoming weekend. That afternoon game will get underway at the conclusion of the women's match preceeding it, and is scheduled for 3:15 p.m.
