Toronto - The McMaster Marauders men's soccer team will once again find themselves in the OUA Championship finals in hopes of defending their 2011 OUA title. They defeated the No. 5 Queen's Gaels on Saturday morning at McNaughton Park.
The Gaels would get the scoring started in the match with a goal from midfielder Nathan Klemencic (Trenton, Ont.) near the 20 minute mark.
But the Marauders would respond before the end of the half with a goal of their own from midfielder Paterson Farrell (Oakville, Ont.) for his ninth of the season and first of the playoffs. The goal would come just before half time as both teams would head into the second 1-1.
In the second, McMaster would once again be the first to give up a goal, this time coming from Gael Joseph Zupo (Toronto) on a penalty kick.
Having to fight their way back for the second time in the match, it would be 2011 OUA West Rookie of the Year Gersi Xhuti (Etobicoke, Ont.) who would connect for the tying goal in the 78th minute. Both teams would end the game in regulation with two goals each.
In extra time was really when the Marauders opened up the scoring. Daniel Niksic would get the game-winning goal just five minutes in and it wouldn't stop there. Muntazir Fadhel (Richmond Hill, Ont.) would get his second of the season at the 110th minute and three minutes after that OUA All-Star Mark Reilly (Hamilton, Ont.) would connect for his 12th.
With the OUA Semifinal win, McMaster moves onto the OUA Finals to be played on Sunday at 2pm. The Marauders will face the No. 10 Carleton Ravens, who defeated the No. 1 York Lions, who lost their first game of the season.
