Hamilton, Ont. - The McMaster men's lacrosse team hosted the Laurentian Voyageurs on Sunday afternoon at Alumni Field. In their second contest of the season, the Marauders came out on top this time with a 15-8 victory.

Defence ruled the first quarter, allowing each team to just score one goal. The first came from Laurentian in the ninth minute of the game from Jon Ver Der G (Orangeville, Ont.). With just six minutes left in the first quarter, McMaster evened up the score with a goal from Mark Phillips (Alma, Ont.), assisted by Ryan Adams (Oakville, Ont.).

In the second, McMaster would go on to score seven unanswered goals, and would shut out the Voyageurs from scoring in the full 20 minutes of the quarter. Just 12 seconds into, Carter Williams (Scottsdale, AZ) would score his first of the game and it would be assisted by Phillips on the power play. Goaltender Max Yavitt (Ithaca, NY) would assist on the next two, from Brent Murphy (Fergus, Ont.) and Ian Waud (Hamilton, Ont.) and Phillips would score his second, assisted by Mitchell Iszkula (Hamilton, Ont.). Iszkula and Phillips switched roles on the next goal, Williams got his second unassisted and with just 48 seconds left in the half, Iszkula would score his second goal as well.

McMaster would head into the second half, up 8-1.

In the third, Laurentian would score five unanswered goals of their own before McMaster would get back on the board. Brad Gerrow (Peterborough, Ont.) got Laurentian's first goal of the half, Van Der G would assist on a goal from Doug Bennett (Sudbury, Ont.) and Matt Volpe (Orangeville, Ont.) would get a power play goal with the help of Philip Romanet (Georgetown, Ont.). Van Der G would get his second, assisted by Bob Pollock (Wallaceburg, Ont.) and Paul Jelley (Newmarket, Ont.) would finish off the assault before McMaster would get back on the board.

Before the third was over, McMaster would get back on the board with a goal from Adams, assisted by Jamie Batten (Bolton, Ont.) and Williams would get another one from Adams. The score would read 10-6 in favour of the Marauders heading into the final quarter.

Pollock would get the quarter started with a goal for the Voyageurs, but Phillips would match it with a goal of his own, assisted by Adams. Voyageur Gerrow would get Laurentian's final goal of the game five minutes in, but it wouldn't be enough as McMaster scored four more to solidify the win. Goal scorers in the final quarter included Tristan Schram (Hamilton, Ont.) with the help of Williams, Iszkula on the power play from Williams, Phillips from Iszkula and Lucas Lepore (London, Ont.) would finish it off with Zach Sicard (Hamilton, Ont.) picking up the assist.

McMaster would finish the contest with 15 goals and only allowed Laurentian to score 8.

Earlier in the weekend, the Marauders faced Brock on the road, but would be unable to overtake a strong Badgers squad as they lost 13-3. Goal scorers in the loss included Batten, Phillips and Iszkula.
