MARAUDERS DRAW WITH MUSTANGS 1-1 AT RON JOYCE STADIUM

Hamilton, Ont. - The McMaster men's soccer team took on the Western Mustangs on Sunday in their second game of the season and ended in a 1-1 draw. McMaster's lone goal scorer of the game was forward Mark Reilly (Hamilton, Ont.).

The match got off to a quick pace at Ron Joyce Stadium as both teams came out needing that all important first goal. McMaster pushed early for their chances and came up with the first goal of the match, just five minutes in. Marauder forward Reilly capitalized on a through pass and took advantage, scoring on Western goal keeper Andrew Murdoch (Burlington, Ont.). This was the veteran's first goal of the 2011 season.

Western quickly responded to McMaster's goal. In the 10th minute of the match, Western's Niko Mavrikos fired a quick shot from the top of the 18-yard box and scored for the Mustangs to even up the match at one all.

The first half would end with a tied score of 1-1 as both teams fought for the lead to the 45 minute mark.

Early in the second, the Marauders would come down the field and get the ball in the corner. Ryan Garnett (Waterloo, Ont.) would cross the ball but forwards Reilly and Paterson Farrell (Oakville, Ont,) would be unable to score the go ahead goal.

As play got aggressive in the second half with both teams tallying numerous fouls, neither team was able to beat their opponents goalie one more time. Rookie goal keeper Angelo Cavalluzzo (Hamilton, Ont.) would come up with some big saves to allow only one goal in the match for the Marauders.

The Marauders head to York University on Wednesday afternoon to take on the Lions in hopes of continuing their unbeaten streak.
